Choosing a Rug: How to Choose the Perfect Rug Size?

Lay down newspapers to find the right dimensions for your rug, or mark out the area with tape.

A rug for the living room?

1) To create unity, place the furniture partly on the rug (about 30 cm). Set the front legs of the sofa on the rug and the room feels connected.

2) To create an island, place the furniture entirely on the rug.

3) When the rug lies in front of the sofa legs, each piece of furniture stands out more. The focus is then on the individual pieces rather than the whole.

A rug under the table?

Place the rug so it extends at least 60 and at most 90 centimetres beyond the table. That way you can push your chair back without it sliding off the rug.

A rug for the bedroom?

Make sure the rug extends well on both sides of the bed. You can also place it two thirds under the bed, which makes the bed look longer. Or choose a small rug beside the bed or at the foot end.
