A slice of bread with chocolate spread lands on your rug? No need to worry. Follow these steps and your rug will soon look as it should.
One rule matters most: act quickly. This keeps the stain from drying and soaking deep into the fibres, which makes chocolate, honey or jam harder to remove.
Step 1: Scrape and remove
Use a scraper or a flat object to remove as much of the spread as possible. Make sure all lumps are gone before moving on.
Step 2: Lukewarm water with ammonia
Dampen a clean cloth with lukewarm water and add a tablespoon of ammonia. Blot the stain gently, without rubbing: rubbing only spreads it. Keep blotting for about a minute, until the stain is gone.
Step 3: Let it dry
Blot with a dry cloth to absorb the remaining moisture, then let the rug air dry.
