Your dog or cat decides to pee on your carpet. Now what? No panic. If you follow the steps below, your carpet will be clean again in no time.

There is one golden rule When it comes to urine stains on your carpet: react quickly! This prevents the urine from drying out and penetrating deep into the fibers of the carpet, making it more difficult to remove the stain. It is therefore important to to take immediate action.

Step 1: Dab with a cloth

Take a clean cloth and dampen it with lukewarm water. Optionally, add a drop of heavily diluted shampoo. Be careful over the urine stain without rubbing. By rubbing, you only make the stain larger. Continue to gently dab for 1 minute until you have absorbed most of the urine.

Step 2: Lukewarm water with vinegar

Mix what lukewarm water with a a few drops of vinegar. Then use a new, clean cloth and dab again on the stain. The acid in the vinegar helps to neutralize the stain without damaging your carpet. Dab until the urine stain completely gone is.

Step 3: Let it dry for a moment

Finally, take a dry cloth and pat away the excess moisture. Then let your rug air dry and your rug will be stain-free again.

Step 4: Combatting Odor

If the urine leaves an unpleasant odor, you can sprinkle some baking soda over it . The baking soda helps to neutralize the sour urine smell. Leave it on for a few hours and then vacuum it up thoroughly with the vacuum cleaner.
